The Lonestar Championship Rodeo is rolling back through Hopkinsville for its 25th year and tickets are on sale now.
Josh Bailey from the Christian County Cattlemen’s Association appeared on WHOP to share what the rodeo has in store for the community. Bailey says not only is it the 25th anniversary of the rodeo in Hopkinsville but 2024 also marks the 75th anniversary of the Lonestar Rodeo Company.
Proceeds from the rodeo go toward academic scholarships for local students and Bailey says over the course of 25 years they have raised around $140,000 in scholarships.
This year’s rodeo festivities include, barrel racing, calf roping, steer racing and much more. Bailey says they will also be hosting events such as youth team roping, youth barrel racing, chuckwagon racing, and a best dressed cowboy and cowgirl competition which will include local contestants.
Bailey says their specialty act is Tim ‘Wild Thang’ Leopard and Ghostriders who will put on show featuring cowboy monkeys.
Along with the rodeo festivities, Bailey told listeners to come hungry because the association will be serving up ribeye sandwiches, brisket sandwiches, hamburgers and much more.
Legacy Metals LLC will also be hosting a four-wheeler give away at the rodeo.
The rodeo is set for August 16 and 17 at the Western Kentucky Fairgrounds and gates open at 6 p.m. with the rodeo getting underway at 7:30 p.m. both days. Tickets are on sale at lonestarrodeoco.com and cost $20 for adults, $12 for children and free for those age 3 and younger.
