Hopkinsville High School will send three wrestlers to the mat today at the Girls’ KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Lexington.
Isabell Walker, a junior who took second place in the Region 1 Tournament in only her first year of wrestling, will open her 107-pound division quest for a title against McCreary Central’s Brooklyn Sammons. Walker has an 8-10 record this season and Sammons is 21-7.
Meanwhile, junior Rheanna Walker is making her second straight appearance in the state tournament at 114 pounds. After taking third place in the Region 1 Tournament, Rheanna Walker will open the state tournament against Boyle County’s Lyla Smith, who is 17-3 on the season. Rheanna Walker is 11-7.
Freshman Anna Clark brings her 6-11 record to the state tournament for the first time. The Lady Tigers’ 152-pounder is scheduled to take on Pike County Central’s Bralyn Maynard in the opening match. Maynard is 24-1 on the year.
Hopkinsville coach Robert Bussell said he feels all three of his wrestlers have a chance to medal at today’s state tournament.
Weigh-in is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. with wrestling to begin at 8:30 a.m. Central Time.
The boys’ state wrestling tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Lexington.
