101st Airborne soldier dies in Hungary in vehicular accident

A 101st Airborne Division soldier has died during an accident during training in Hungary.

It happened on June 5 near Camp Croft in Hungary, and officials have identified the soldier as Sergeant Aaron Cox of Mabank, Texas, who was an Infantryman assigned to the “Strike” 2nd Mobile Brigade Combat Team with the 101st Airborne Division, Air Assault.

Preliminary investigation has determined he died due to wounds that were sustained from a vehicle accident during preparation for an upcoming training exercise.

Sgt. Cox joined the Army in 2021 and arrived at Fort Campbell in 2022 and this was his second deployment, having previously deployed to Poland.

His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Expert Infantryman Badge and the Air Assault Badge.

The investigation remains ongoing.
